Green Light for the Medica

World's largest medical trade fair opens today: On the occasion of its 40th anniversary Medica attracts a record number of exhibitors.

Green Light for the Medica

The world's largest medical trade fair has set a new record: this year a total of 4,313 firms will be presenting products and services for the healthcare sector, two more than last year. The trade fair organisers expect the same high attendance as in 2007, when 137,000 visitors came to Düsseldorf Messe grounds. "No other event anywhere in the world offers such a structured and comprehensive overview of the medical products and trends," Wilhelm Niedergöker, Managing Director of the Düsseldorf Messe, explained with pride. He pointed out that exhibitors at the Medica cover the entire spectrum of ambulatory and hospital patient care.

And the Medica is becoming more international all the time. This year 1,290 exhibitors, or 30 percent, come from Germany. The largest contingent of foreign exhibitors is from China (377), followed by the U.S. (351). "The Medica gives exhibitors the opportunity to meet with decision-makers from Germany and abroad," says Niedergöker. And, touch wood, the medical trade fair is still immune to the effects of the global financial crisis. "We have not had any cancellations attributable to the crisis," Niedergöker reported.
